Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to perform general maintenance tasks such as simple construction, repairs to roadways and walks, routine preventative maintenance, heavy janitorial and general services work.

POSITION DUTIES

This recruitment has two vacancies at the same location. One position will be responsible for performing lock repairs, key cutting, and repinning locks. The other vacancy will be responsible for all maintenance and repairs to maintain the facility with an emphasis on carpentry work to include precision cutting, fitting and finishing for the repair of fine furniture, bookcases, benches and desks.  Although the bulk of the employee's work is spent in actual performance of maintenance and repair tasks, on occasion the employee may serve as the lead worker. The employee assigns work, examines completed work and provides immediate guidance and assistance to a team of unskilled or semi-skilled employees such as Maintenance Mechanics or Janitorial employees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Eighth grade.

Experience: Three years of experience in the building maintenance or building construction trades including two years of experience assigning, reviewing and approving the work of other building maintenance or building construction workers.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

1. Experience installing, cutting, repining, adjusting, repairing, and opening locks of all types and makes. 
2. Possession of a High School Diploma or GED
3. Possession of a Trade Certificate in the trades of electricity, plumbing, HVAC, painting, carpentry, or ground maintenance.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SELECTION PROCESS

If you have completed education outside the US, you will need to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service.
