Main Purpose of Job

A Maintenance Chief II Non-Licensed is the supervisory level of stationary engineering and building maintenance work. Employees in this classification supervise skilled and semi-skilled building maintenance workers. Employees in this classification receive general supervision from a higher-level Maintenance Chief, Maintenance Supervisor or administrator. Positions in this classification are evaluated by using the Supplemental Standards for Maintenance Chief/Supervisor Positions which allocates positions based on their job function or overall supervisory responsibility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Eighth grade.

Experience: Three years of experience in the building maintenance or building construction trades including two years of experience assigning, reviewing and approving the work of other building maintenance or building construction workers.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

1. Possession of a High School Diploma or GED
2. Possession of a Trade Certificate in the trades of electricity, plumbing, HVAC, painting, carpentry, or ground maintenance.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The assessment will be a rating of your application based on your education, training and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position.  Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.   Please report all related experience and education.   Applicants who meet the Minimum Qualifications will be placed on the eligible list categorized as Qualified, Better Qualified, or Best Qualified.  Candidates shall be certified to the eligible list for a period of one year.  This list will be used by the DJS hiring agency to select employees. 
If you have completed education outside the US, you will need to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
