LOCATION OF POSITION
POSITION DUTIES
To inspect amusement attractions, vertical lifts, platform lifts, stairway chair lifts, and personnel hoists operating in Maryland as a process of ensuring, as far as possible, the safety of the public in the use of the equipment.
Inspect new and existing amusement attractions and other related devices at various locations throughout the State for compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Consult with amusement ride owners and manufacturers to resolve compliance issues. Working with owners by observing and testing the equipment.
Inspect new and existing vertical, inclined, stairway chair lifts, and personnel hoist and other related devices at various locations throughout the State for compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and manufacturers requirements. Working with building owners by observing and testing the equipment. Additional duties may include elevator safety inspections at various locations throughout the State for compliance with applicable laws and regulations by observing and testing the equipment.
Prepare and submit the required inspection activity reports on a timely basis (dictated by policy) which includes but not limited to: Daily Activity, Bi-Weekly Time, Inspection Report, Safety Orders, Accident Reports, Expense Reports, State Vehicle Fleet Sheet. The data collected and information contained it these reports will be used in preparing the quarterly and annual departmental reports.
Provide guidance and direction by assisting inspectors
on various aspects of amusement ride and lift inspections, by providing
instruction and knowledge while working with them in the field. Inspectors may be required to participate in
training or instructional workshops.
Maintain State issued equipment which includes but not
limited to: vehicles, test equipment, personal protective equipment, cameras
and video equipment, reference manuals, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned by management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three years of experience in the construction, installation, repair, adjustment or inspection of amusement attractions, vertical, inclined and stairway chair lifts, personnel hoists, and related devices. One year of experience must have been in the inspection of amusement attractions, vertical, inclined and stairway chair lifts, personnel hoists, and related devices for a federal, state, or local regulatory inspection program or private entity performing similar work.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute additional experience performing safety inspections of amusement rides and related devices for a federal, state or local regulatory inspection program or private entity performing similar work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in General Inspection, Investigation, Enforcement and Compliance classifications or General Inspection, Investigation, Enforcement and Compliance specialty codes in the Inspection, Investigation, Enforcement, and Compliance field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
2. Employees in this classification must possess Level 1, 2, or 3 certification from the National Association of Amusement Ride Safety Officials or equivalent certification through an accredited engineering or technical certification program prior to appointment and are required to maintain certification through continued education and training while employed.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (DOL/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to DOL/DUI as a result of an unemployment insurance overpayment and/or fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
