Main Purpose of Job

Functions under the supervision of the CNO Supervisor/Manager as a uniformed first line staff demonstrating a knowledge of facility and departmental policies, procedures and protocol to provide safety, protection and security for the customer, equipment and physical plant. In addition supports the treatment of clients that is family driven and youth guided.

Vaccine Requirement: Per the emergency regulation issued by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) (86 FR 61555), and as permitted to go into effect by the U.S. Supreme Court on January 13, 2022, all staff of the MDH Healthcare System facilities required to show proof of first dose or single dose of COVID-19 vaccination 14 days after start date of employment. Staff includes, but is not limited to, regular and contractual employees, contractual staff, volunteers, and other state employees performing any duties at the facility. All staff are required to complete the full shot regimen, including any booster shot, as clinically indicated in order to satisfy this requirement. 
Candidates with an approved medical or religious reason for vaccination exemption must provide proof of exemption prior to appointment.

POSITION DUTIES

Functions under the supervision of the CNO Supervisor/Manager as a uniformed first line staff demonstrating a knowledge of facility and departmental policies, procedures and protocol to provide safety, protection and security for the customer, equipment and physical plant. In addition supports the treatment of clients that is family driven and youth guided.

  • Works to implement the department and facility  goals; functions as a “uniformed” first line staff; demonstrates  knowledge of and implements relevant facility and departmental polices, procedures and protocols in order to provide safety, protection and security for the clients, staff and visitors; equipment; and physical plant
  • Demonstrates competence and participates in the facility’s plan for PMAB including aggression prevention strategies, de-escalation techniques and the implementation of emergency safety interventions according to established facility guidelines, including the behavior guidelines, the therapeutic process model, the P&P for PMAB, and the implementation of clients’ restraint/seclusion prevention plans.
  • Provides transportation, escort and supervisor  of clients to support the day–to–day functioning of the facility
  • Assists with the accomplishment of varied tasks under the direction of the CNOSupervisor

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Security Attendant I qualifications:

    Education:   High School diploma or high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional Training Commission regulation.

    Experience: None.

    Note: The above educational requirement is set by the Police and Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209 of the Annotated Code of Maryland.

    Security Attendant II qualifications:

    Education:    High School diploma or high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional Training Commission regulation.

    Experience: One year of experience providing security to patients, or inmates or youths committed by courts to psychiatric hospitals, correctional facilities or juvenile detention centers.

    Notes:

    1. The above educational requirement is set by the Police and Correctional Training Commission in accordance with the Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209 of the Annotated Code of Maryland.

    2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Correctional Officer/Specialist classifications or Internment/Resettlement Specialist and Correctional specialty codes in the security field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

    LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

    1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

    2. Some positions in this classification may be required to operate large vans to transport patients. Employees assigned these duties will be required to obtain a Maryland driver's license of the appropriate class for this type of vehicle

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    1. Employees who have not already done so must meet the selection standards required and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission for a Correctional Officer during their probationary period, (Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209). Selection standards for correctional officer training are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12, Subtitle 10, Chapter 01 and include the following:

    U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status

    Must be at least 21 years of age

    A completed background investigation

    Oral interview

    Physical examination.

    2. Employees in this classification will be required to provide the facility with a telephone number where they can be reached.

    3. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
