Introduction

The Maryland Department of Health is seeking candidates for Social Worker I and II Health Services CI to provide clinical social work services at Potomac Center and within the SETT program, both located on the same campus in Hagerstown, Maryland.

The Potomac Center/SETT facility provides quality person-centered support to adults with intellectual disabilities. The Potomac Center is a 62-bed licensed Intermediate Care Facility (ICF).  This program focuses on using therapeutic interventions to empower residents as they learn the skills they need to successfully return to community living.

The Secure Evaluation and Therapeutic Treatment (SETT) Program, located within the Potomac Center campus, is a 32-bed licensed Forensic Residential Center that provides services to individuals with intellectual disabilities and court involvement within a safe and secure environment.  The program provides assistance as they resolve their court involvement and work toward transitioning to a less secured environment.  The SETT utilizes active treatment as well as providing evaluation, assessment and competency attainment education.  

The Potomac Center and SETT Program are situated in Hagerstown, Maryland in Washington County which is within 30 miles of West Virginia and Pennsylvania.  Washington County is rich in culture with Hagerstown's Arts & Entertainment District which houses the Maryland Theatre and Performing Arts Complex and connects with the City Park and various museums by way of The Cultural Trail.  Washington County has an abundance of outdoor recreational activities.  A majority of Maryland's Appalachian Trail is in Washington County,  With five national parks and eight state parks, you have access to hiking, biking, kayaking, boating, birding, and photography.

GRADE

Social Worker I, Health Services CI:  Grade ASTD 17, Salary Range - $50,466.00-$80,788.00 Yearly

Social Worker II, Health Services CI: Grade ASTD 18, Salary Range - $53,741.00-$86,244.00 Yearly 

(Salary will be based on selected candidates' education and experience.)

Main Purpose of Job

This position serves on the Interdisciplinary Team; is primary familial contact; assesses each person's needs and explores appropriate resources and interventions; and writes updated social summaries. This position functions as advocate on behalf of the people who reside at Potomac Center/SETT and actively supports an interdisciplinary approach to how each person's unique needs, wants, and goals can be reached. This position also provides in-service training to other facility staff on a variety of topics including Professional Boundaries, and Abuse and Neglect. This position must at all times ensure duties and responsibilities are carried out according to ICF/MR regulations; Office of Health Care Quality; Potomac Center/SETT Policies; and all procedures, professional standards, and ethical considerations associated with their professional licensure.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Social Worker I, Health Services CI 

Education:   Determined by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners under the licensing requirements for Social Workers. 

Experience: None. 

OR 

Social Worker II, Health Services CI 

Education  Determined by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners under the licensing requirements for Social Workers. 

Experience: Two years of experience rendering clinical social work services in a health care or treatment setting subsequent to the receipt of an approved Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university. 

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Social Work classifications or Social Work specialty codes in the Social Science, Psychology, and Welfare field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:

  • Experience working with the intellectually disabled.
  • Experience working with forensic populations.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Social Worker I, Health Services CI

1. Candidates must be licensed as a Graduate Social Worker (on or by June 30, 2018), Master Social Worker(on or after July 1, 2018) or Certified Social Worker by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment to a position in State service. Applicants who do not have a license may also apply pending receipt of the required license. When the license is obtained, submit a copy to the Maryland Department of Health Testing Unit. 

2. Candidates appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess an appropriate operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. 

OR 

Social Worker II, Health Services CI 

1. Candidates must be licensed as a Certified Social Worker or Certified Social Worker, Clinical by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment to a position in State service. Applicants who do not have a license may also apply pending receipt of the required license. When the license is obtained, submit a copy to the Maryland Department of Health Testing Unit. 

2. Candidates appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess an appropriate operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
