Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position will be to provide ongoing clinical supervision for Healthy Families Family Support Specialists, CHNs working with Early Care Programs, and/or Early Head start home based home visitors whose primary role is to provide intensive nurse home visiting and paraprofessional home visiting to pregnant women and children up to five years of age. The goals of Early Care Programs home visiting are to improve birth outcomes, strengthen families, cultivate nurturing parent child relationships, promote child health and developmental outcomes, promote family stability, and build foundations for strong family functioning. The position will also provide support and supervision to staff working with families to promote family and child health through education, health promotion; and assessment and referral in collaboration with other health professionals and community agencies to support family and children's optimal health, nutrition, safety and development. Job duties are directed toward assuring quality of service provision with home visiting services to include ongoing nursing assessment, nursing diagnosis and development of a plan of care with families taking into account their unique strengths and needs. Reflective supervision sessions will be provided to staff from the Early Care Program Community Health Nurse Supervisor to promote continued growth with the program. This position requires knowledge of and expertise in providing home based services as well as completion of required Healthy Families America training prior to or within 6 months of hire. General Supervision is received from the Early Care Program Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of experience as a Community Health Nurse.

Notes:  1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and one year of experience as a Registered Nurse for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute two years of experience as a Registered Nurse for the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute a Master’s degree in nursing or related field from an accredited college or university for the required education and experience.

4. Candidates may substitute one year of experience in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity as a Registered Nurse for the required experience.

5. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classification or Nursing or Health Care Specialist specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have experience supervising other staff, community health in home visiting experience and knowledge of Healthy Families of America programs.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a registered nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
