Main Purpose of Job

A Nurse Practitioner/Midwife Supervisor is a clinical supervisory position responsible for the provision of clinical services to the youth served by the Department of Juvenile Services, and functions as a nurse practitioner to identify and address health concerns through the practice, planning, coordinating, and supervision of the health care services in the facility health centers. This position maintains clinical operational efficiency according to DJS policies, procedures and protocols. Work is performed under the general direction of the Program Health Administrator and the clinical direction of the Medical Director, in accordance with prescribed nursing care protocols.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care. 
  • Participate in Inter-collaborative care for the populace served by the Department of Juvenile Services.
  • Serves as supplemental nursing coverage in DJS facility clinics in the absence of the nursing supervisor, in a long-term Nursing vacancy or long-term leave of absence.
  • Performs clinical nursing services for patients in the prevention of illness and the attainment of maximum health, including infirmary care, admission testing and collection of laboratory specimens.
  • Coordinates all nursing activities related directly or indirectly to patient care. 
  • Provides instruction and guidance to nursing and support staff in provision of quality nursing services.
  • Assists in the development of care and treatment plans, discharge/after care, and special health care services for youth within DJS with identified chronic health care needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses under the certification requirements for Nurse Practitioner or Nurse-Midwife.

Experience: Two years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or as a Nurse Midwife.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Midwife classification or Nurse Practitioner or Nurse-Midwife specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Current Nurse Practitioner certification (Pediatrics or Family) 
CPR/AED certification 
Two years’ experience as a board-certified nurse practitioner in Pediatrics or Family 
One year of clinical supervision or management experience 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1.Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner or as a Nurse Midwife from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2.Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
