Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to implement, maintain, and provide direct service programs in Vocational Adjustment Services. This is designed to aid in personal adjustment, work adjustment, and pre-vocational skill building to the severe and persistently mentally ill patient. Supports the mission of the organization through active participation in clinical efforts to provide treatment in a recovery-oriented environment. The foundation of a recovery-oriented environment is respect and a commitment to safety in the least restrictive manner possible.

Some job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: 
  • Assists in assessing the vocational capacities and limitations of patients. 
  • Implements appropriate instructional vocational training methods to meet the needs of each patient. 
  • Carries out the individual patient's work adjustment plan.
  • Documents progress of patients in program. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Completion of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university with at least 15 credit hours in health services, human services, education or the behavioral sciences.

Experience: Two years of experience providing work placement, work training, and work adjustment services to mentally ill patients or developmentally disabled clients in a pre-vocational development program.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute two additional years of experience as defined above for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in vocational counseling or closely related field for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Career Counseling and Advisor classifications or Career Counseling and Advisor specialty codes in the Counseling field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have experience:
  • Implementing instructional vocational training methods for psychiatric clients 
  • Providing pre-vocational education and skill building techniques to psychiatric clients

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

2. Employees in some positions in this classification may be required to operate vehicles which require a Class C motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.  Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess the Class C motor vehicle operator’s license.

3. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete training and maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in and, therefore, may be required to provide the facility with a phone number where they can be reached.
