Main Purpose of Job

The position functions as the Chief Information Security Officer for the Maryland State Police, Technology and Information Management Command. The position serves as an advisor to the CIO and IT Director regarding data and information security; is responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of State-wide data and information security including: strategy and architecture, policies, process and standards, the operational application of data security, vulnerability assessments and analysis, project management and disaster recovery planning and outreach. The position is responsible for the Supervision of an IT Security Analyst who is responsible for supporting a variety of IT systems and networking functions within the Technology and Information Management Command.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: 

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems or another technology-related field.


Experience: 

Minimum 12 months of experience with cyber and/or network security as well as a    combination of risk management and information security. 

 
Note: Candidates may substitute additional experience in cyber security and/or network security on a year-to-year basis for the required education

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Have experience with Incident Management.

2. Have experience in IT network technology to include Cisco Systems hardware, ASR(s), ASA(s), IDS/IDPS, router switches, web servers and DNS. 

3. Have experience with Windows Based Server OS through 2019.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

In accordance with Section 2-204(b)(6) of the Public Safety Article, Candidates for position in this classification will be subject to an initial drug screen and a complete criminal background investigation to include a polygraph examination before permanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification.  Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Successful candidates will be place on the Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED OR QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination. The list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application. Report all experience and education that is related to this position. Applicants may be given a physical examination and will be subject to an interview, background investigation, polygraph examination and substance abuse testing.
