Introduction
This is a 12 month
position in the maintenance department of the Maryland School for the Deaf
– Frederick Campus.

POSITION DUTIES
The main purpose of this position is to provide all facets of housekeeping and limited maintenance services in order to maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for staff, students, and visitors. Clean, disinfect, remove debris, and sanitize as necessary all: porcelain appliances, walls, door and partitions, mirrors, windows, screens, window ledges and doors, lighting fixtures, trash containers, curtains, drapes and blinds, examination tables and treatment tables, pictures, handrails, elevators, stairwells and baseboards, telephones, furniture and chairs, kitchen appliances, computers and other office equipment, including stoves, refrigerators and other appliances as needed, and when necessary, clean and polish plumbing fixtures. Vacuum, clean, dust, mop, or sweep and strip, wax, and/or polish as necessary all: floors and hard surfaced areas, carpets, stairwells, and entry ways. Organize janitorial closets and store flammable and other items per code. Performs checks and needed maintenance on all equipment items utilized by and under the charge of the employee. Aside from the regular cleaning duties this position is responsible to wax and buff floors in all the buildings on campus.

Must be
willing to learn American Sign Language.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees appointed to positions in this
classification may be assigned duties, which require the operation of a motor
vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor
vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Work involves special physical demands such as
lifting/pushing 50 pounds or more and climbing ladders. Must be able
to climb 6' ladders to wash walls, light fixtures, and clean interior/exterior
windows, etc. Must be able to sit, squat, or stand for long periods of
time. Must be able to operate a high speed buffer. Must be able to
safely use, adjust, and maintain manual and power tools and equipment used in
cleaning. New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their
own expense. (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections
5-560-568)Candidates will need to provide three letters of recommendation.
BENEFITS
Contractual employees
who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and
Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or
more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for
subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a
contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums
for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents
you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of
the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental
death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible
to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted
to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This
leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40
hours per calendar year.
