Main Purpose of Job

This position will provide programmatic and operational management and leadership for policy and program development, as well as advocacy for the promotion of the health of Maryland women and families, in accordance with the federal Title V-MCH Block Grant Program, State quality improvement initiatives- including COVID-19 and pregnancy surveillance- and the Title X Family Planning Program. This position will provide highly responsible clinical and programmatic oversight at the level of an experienced physician with training and expertise in Public Health, Pediatrics, Neonatology, Obstetrics/Gynecology, or Family Medicine.

Additionally, this position will provide expert medical consultation in women’s/reproductive health by serving as the Title X Medical Director for local sites which are without a Medical Director. Furthermore, this position will serve public health by assessing program needs, evaluating program performance, and developing and implementing policies and programs, in order to optimize women’s health and their families’ health. 

This is a senior leadership position in the Maryland Department of Health (MDH)'s Prevention and Health Promotion Administration (PHPA)'s Maternal and Child Health Bureau.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Doctorate degree in Medicine from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Required for certification in an area of medical specialization by an American Medical Association Specialty Board.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a Commissioned Officer in Medical Corpsman and Physicians classifications, or Nursing or Physician and Medical Services and Special Corpsman Officer specialty codes in the medicine field of work, on a year-for-year basis, for the required education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Applicants for this classification must be certified by an American Medical Association Specialty Board in an area of medical specialization.

2. Applicants for this classification must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of the current license must be attached to the application.
