Main Purpose of Job

The purpose of this position is to provide counseling to patients with substance use disorders by using assessment, intervention, treatment and rehabilitation. The A/D Associate Counselor in this classification receives general supervision from an Alcohol and Drug Professional Counselor Supervisor or other supervisor approved by the board of Professional Counselors and Therapists. This individual supports the mission of the organization through active participation in clinical efforts to provide psychological evaluation and treatment in recovery oriented environment.

Some job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: 
  • Conduct Addiction Therapy and Relapse Prevention groups and conduct psycho-educational groups regarding Mental Illness and Substance Abuse (MISA). 
  • Complete documentation on all clinical intervention. 
  • Conduct Addiction Assessments and Trauma Screenings, document requirements for treatment plans and discharge summaries. 
  • Represent ACTRS on a treatment team(s) of a unit in the Hospital. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:     Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Certified Associate Counselors-Alcohol and Drug.  

Experience:   Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the certification requirements for Certified Associate Counselors-Alcohol and Drug. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess:
  • Experience with co-occurring disorders or individuals who also have a comorbid serious persistent mental illness.
  • Experience working with individuals who are court involved or in the criminal justice system. 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.07, candidates must be certified by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Certified Associate Counselor-Alcohol and Drug.  

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.  

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
