Main Purpose of Job

These are is a contractual professional positions responsible for serving on a regional response and clinical support team to provide on-site information on student and family services to support students and families who are in crisis and need assistance and potential referral to support programs and services

POSITION DUTIES

Provides technical assistance and response to crisis situations at the request of  local school systems; provides on-site information on student and family services to support to students and families who are in crisis and need assistance and refers families to support programs and services; provides information regarding medical coverage, parenting, mental health, substance abuse or other resources, as appropriate, with the clinical support teams and/or the family of a student in need; assesses family needs including the stress level of parents and other challenges related to their child’s needs; identifies and utilizes community resources and empowers families through education and support to enable them to take the lead role in planning, advocating, and responding to their family's needs. works collaboratively, with local school system leadership, administrators, State team, and school staff to identify professional and family assistance needs; responds to the Project Director, clinical support teams, local school system staff, State team, or other mental health professionals, as appropriate, regarding crisis family response or professional development; collaborates in creating, reviewing, and/or editing reports and correspondence related to  family response, clinical support, and/or professional development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  A Master’s Degree or equivalent 36 post baccalaureate credit hours[WU1]  of course work in Education or Special Education or a related field.  

EXPERIENCE:  Four (4) years of professional experience in or affiliated with education or family support programs; experience in coordinating or administering programs related to mental health intervention for students and their families.   

NOTES:

1. Two additional years of experience directly related to the position option may be substituted for the required Master’s Degree.

2. Possession of a Doctorate in a field related to the position may be substituted for one year of the required experience. 3.The required field of education and experience are unique for each option and are established by MSDE in accordance with Education Article, Section 2-104 of the Annotated Code of Maryland. The specific education and experience qualifications for each position are on record in the Human Resource Management Branch of the Division of Business Services of the Department of Education.

4.Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Education Program classifications or Education Program specialty codes in the Education field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

One year of experience counseling students within a school setting.
