Main Purpose of Job
This is a professional position responsible for providing
leadership, technical assistance, and programmatic support to the State and
local school systems for world language and dual language programs and the
assessment of heritage language and second language programs.
POSITION DUTIES
This position provides skilled expertise and
leads all aspects of the development, implementation, and evaluation of
processes, products, and professional learning associated with world languages,
standards, policies, and curricular resources.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Possession of a Master’s Degree or equivalent 36 credit
hours of post-baccalaureate course work.
EXPERIENCE: Four years of administrative or teaching
experience in, or affiliated with, an education program.
Notes:
- Two additional years of experience directly related to the position may be substituted for the required Master’s Degree.
- Possession of a Doctorate in a field related to the position option may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
- The required field of education and experience are unique for each option and are established by MSDE in accordance with Education Article, Section 2-104 of the Annotated Code of Maryland. The specific education and experience qualifications for each position are on record in the Human Resource Management Branch of the Division of Business Services of the Department of Education.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Education Program classifications or Education Program specialty codes in the Education field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
One year K-12 World Languages teaching experience in Maryland Public
Schools or experience working in the World Languages Office for a local school
system on initiatives related to K-12 world languages.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards
for World Languages; knowledge of trends, regulations, policies, and issues
affecting world languages; knowledge of
curriculum and instruction in world languages; skill in developing curriculum
and implementing, monitoring, and evaluating world language education programs;
skill in developing and presenting professional learning programs; ability to
interpret and apply principles and policies governing world language education
programs; ability to organize and manage multiple tasks; ability to work as a
team member and establish and maintain effective working relationships; ability
to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
