Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor is now accepting applications for the position of Designated Administrative Manager IV. This position will be the Communication Director for the Department.

This is a Management Services position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to communicate vital information to the public through traditional and new media.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • communicate vital information to the public through traditional and new media
  • develop strategic messaging to 'brand' Labor as the state's leading agency for workforce development, consumer protection, workforce safety and provider of a safety net
  • coordinate internal communications to all 2,000+  Labor employees
  • educate stakeholders about services and initiatives Department of Labor leads to secure Maryland's economic future

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes: 

1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

 2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year-for-year basis for the required general experience. 

 3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

Master's degree in Communications or Journalism

Written and Verbal communication skills 

Knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing and multimedia software

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (Department of Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to Department of Labor/DUI as a result of unemployment overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
