Main Purpose of Job
The MCSS is a small independent unit of government that
provides grant funding, training, and other resources to support schools
throughout Maryland. Our Agency Mission is to promote and enhance safer school
communities and this position provides administrative direction and oversight,
technical knowledge, assistance and support to the Maryland Center for School
Safety (MCSS) in the areas of school safety, school administration, violence
prevention, student behavior and disciplinary consequences/alternatives, school
climate and culture and at-risk student prevention and intervention strategies
and services.
POSITION DUTIES
The Prevention/Intervention Specialist is responsible for
developing, designing, administering and delivering training related to the
MCSS mission of collaboration with local school systems, mental health
coordinators and law enforcement agencies, state and local government,
community organizations and other stakeholders to provide a comprehensive and
coordinated approach to school safety and school emergency preparedness across
the State of Maryland.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: A Master’s Degree or equivalent 36 credit hours
of post-baccalaureate course work from an accredited University. Coursework in Criminal Justice, Emergency
Management, Counseling, or related area preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of professional experience in
in School Safety, Emergency Management, Behavioral/Mental Health Counseling, or
related area.
Notes:
Two additional years of experience may be substituted for
the Master’s degree or 36 hours of equivalent post-baccalaureate course work.
The above requirements are set by the Maryland State
Department of Education in accordance with Education Article, Section 2-104.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
One year experience in Emergency Management or
Behavioral/Mental Health Counseling.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of the needs associated with
prevention/intervention strategies; knowledge of emergency planning and skill
in developing emergency plans; skill in working with Government partners; skill
in development, design, administration, coordination and delivery of related
training in accomplishing the MCSS mission of collaboration with school
systems, mental health agencies, law enforcement agencies and partners
Statewide; skill in interpreting policies and procedures, assessing programs,
identifying problems, and determining improvements/solutions; ability to
organize and manage multiple tasks; ability to communicate.
LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION
Employees in this classification are subject to Substance
Abuse Testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulation 17.04.09, Testing
for Illegal Use of Drugs. Applicants must also consent to a complete criminal
and extended background investigation. Proof of eligibility to work in
compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act and travel throughout
the state are required. Any
