Main Purpose of Job
The primary purpose of the Interagency Commission on School Construction (IAC) Planning Group is to support the educational sufficiency and fiscal sustainability of school facilities in Maryland by delivering technical assistance to local education agencies (LEAs) and providing program support to the IAC.
POSITION DUTIES
The Regional Planner is required to collaborate
with IAC staff, other state agencies, local educational agencies (LEAs), and
others as needed in order to develop, implement and evaluate policies, plans, tasks,
projects, programs and processes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Planning or an
equivalent discipline, or in a similar discipline such as Public
Administration, Geography / Geographic Information Systems (GIS), etc.
EXPERIENCE:
At least two years of experience in planning, public administration, geography
/ GIS, etc.
NOTES:
1. Two
years of additional experience as defined above may be substituted for the
Bachelor’s.
2. Additional
graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be
substituted for the required experience at the rate of 30 semester credit hours
for one year of the required experience.
3. Certification
through the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) may be substituted
for both the required education and experience requirements.
4. U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as
defined under the Preferred Qualifications may be substituted for the required
education and experience on a year-for-year basis.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
A Master’s Degree in planning or an equivalent discipline,
or in a similar discipline such as Public Administration, Geography/Geographic
Information Systems (GIS), etc.
AICP Certification.
Experience with institutional and/or educational facilities
planning.
Development and/or evaluating of socioeconomic data,
trends, projections and/or forecasts.
Visualization and/or
publication of data with GIS and/or desktop publication applications.
SELECTION PROCESS
Successful candidates will be ranked as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified and placed on the eligible (employment) list for at least one year. For education obtained outside of the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation will be required prior to hire. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.
