Main Purpose of Job
This position serves
as the Executive Associate to the Assistant State Superintendent for the
Division Career and College Readiness and Office of Leadership Development and
School Improvement. The position is responsible for planning and executing
administrative functions associated with career and technical education (CTE),
leadership development, school improvement, dual enrollment, and K-12
instructional areas. The position leads administrative functions for the
Division, manages communication and data systems, and supports Division
operations and fiscal management.
POSITION DUTIES
The Executive
Associate is responsible for planning and executing administrative functions
associated with career and technical education (CTE), leadership development,
school improvement, dual enrollment, and K-12 instructional areas. This
Executive Associate administers the schedule for Assistant State
Superintendent; screens, analyzes, and prioritizes incoming correspondences and
disseminates to appropriate staff; maintains databases, contacts, inventory and
Division protocols; requisitions supplies; maintains records; organizes travel;
manages meeting logistics; and reconciles credit card statements and expense
accounts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of
high school equivalency certificate.
EXPERIENCE: Four years of progressively responsible experience providing administrative
support to a senior or executive level manger. One year of the above experience
must have included Office Management. Relevant experience in a State or local
government agency is desirable.
NOTES:
1. Completion
of two years of study at an institution of higher education or possession of an
Associate’s Degree in secretarial science or office technology is preferred.
2. The
required field of education and experience are unique for each option and are
established by MSDE in accordance with Education Article, Section 2-104 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland. The specific education and experience
qualifications for each position are on record in the Human Resource Management
Branch of the Division of Business Services of the Department of Education.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces
military service experience as a commissioned officer in Education Program
classifications or Education Program specialty codes in the Education field of
work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants are subject
to a criminal background investigation in accordance with the federal Family
Law Article, Section 5. Employees in this classification are subject
to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations
06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs. Person appointed to position
in this classification will be assigned duties which require the operation of a
motor vehicle including a car, five-passenger van, and a 12-passenger
van. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor
vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland, and their driving
records will be subject to investigation.
