Main Purpose of Job

This position reports to the Director of Digital Marketing and serves as a manager of digital marketing programs including social, advertising, email and websites. All components of the marketing program work together to position Maryland as a great place to do business. It is a vital role that ties messaging and resources together for Maryland businesses as well as businesses in other markets who may be interested in moving or expanding to Maryland. The Digital Marketing Manager will be responsible for executing digital marketing plans. This includes building, maintaining, analyzing and optimizing the marketing campaigns across various digital channels. The incumbent will ensure website content is updated regularly and is consistent with the branded voice, style and structure. Duties also include the setup and deployment of email marketing campaigns, management of social networking activities and support on paid advertising campaigns. This position requires the ability to research the Maryland business community, the state's key industry sectors, state business resources and become familiar with the state's business advantages. Having a solid understanding of how websites and email platforms work is required.

This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties will consist of support for digital marketing initiatives including – social community management, web analytics, paid search, online display, SEO, general research/POVs, email marketing, and content development/marketing. The incumbent will work closely with the Director of Digital Marketing in managing new and existing content; be responsible for coordinating and communicating information needs within and between division representatives to ensure that digital content is relevant, updated, and accurate. This individual will serve as the department’s lead resource on social community management, SEO implementation, web analytics, digital advertising, and email marketing. Other duties include: maintaining project plans; creating cross channel performance reports; monitoring and providing analysis on performance goals; communicating with internal teams to ensure that all deliverables meet the quality and specifications originally outlined for each project; supporting the development of the information architecture for the agency’s digital projects; performing research tasks; writing copy; monitoring competitive activity in the digital space; working with vendors on paid advertising initiatives (search and display); making content updates to various websites; and providing website recommendations as it relates to SEO and social.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must possess

Education:
a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field including mass communications, business/marketing, advertising

and  

Experience:  
four years of experience working in a marketing related field.  Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must have experience in social community management, web analytics, paid search, digital advertising, email marketing, online display, SEO, and content marketing with excellent written, oral communications and organizational skills. The ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced digital environment is required.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with the following tools is preferred: WordPress, SharePoint, Django, KnackHQ, ArcGIS, Mailchimp, GovDelivery, Hootsuite, Google Ads, Google Analytics
