Introduction

Maryland Public Television, which is commonly known by its familiar name "MPT", is a public television network that comprises six television stations that broadcast throughout the entire state of Maryland as well as into the District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is the only state-wide broadcaster in Maryland. MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service.

Main Purpose of Job

This position will serve on the management team of the production services.   The incumbent will manage and provide numerous services to internal and external clients including coordinating events and productions, managing production services resources, supervising, manage and evaluating the digital video broadcast specialists. The MPT Coordinating Supervisor will be tasked with increasing the efficiency of production as a means to generate revenue.


This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES

Assist the Managing Director of Production Services with coordination, scheduling and utilization of MPT facilities including all production staff, studios, equipment and freelance pool.


Assist the Managing Director of Production Services with planning and implementing the department budgets for specific projects. 


Track facility usage which includes maintaining the software used for scheduling as well as monitoring the accuracy of all information entered into the system. 

 

Supervise the employees' direct reports and manage schedules as relates to master control, encoding and studio work.

 

Serve as director; primarily for streaming programming. 

 

Serve as a lead in addition to operating studio and remote production equipment.

 

Assist production services and facilities as they work with potential clients such as State agencies, public relations departments, independent contractors and the decision makers.


Assist with the preparation of billing documents, rental of equipment and provide technical and logistical guidance.

 

Complete timesheets, performance evaluations and inventories on time as applicable. 

 

Represent MPT at conferences and meeting in areas related to Production Services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    Bachelor's degree in film, media, mass communications, or related field, or an                         equivalent combination of education, training and field experience.

Experience:  Five (5) years of experience which involved the various aspects of television                             production, to include three (3) years of supervisory experience.

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must be provided prior to hire.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This position may require a flexible work schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.  
  • The selected candidate will be required to lift equipment in excess of 50 pounds. 
  • The selected candidate may be required to climb ladders, moving set, lighting equipment etc.
