Main Purpose of Job
To assist the PE Team Leader and teachers in the performance of
their classroom duties at Benson and Kent-McCanner gyms. Also performs duties
as assigned by the Team Leader and teachers.
POSITION DUTIES
Work with PE Team Leader and teachers in Physical
Education physical settings. Work collaboratively with teachers and aides.
Develop materials for bulletin boards and classroom instruction. Set up the
equipment and put the equipment away after the class. Repair and maintain
equipment. Assist teacher in classroom/gym/outside. Lock and unlock the locker
room doors and outdoor gates. Supervise the locker rooms, hallways and
walkways. Provide assistance to individual students if needed. Teach the split
groups with teacher’s instruction in the gym, classroom, weight room and
outdoors. Cover teacher’s classes if needed. Provide assistance to the Athletic
Program when needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Degree or
equivalent
Experience: Fluency in ASL and written English
required. Knowledge of Physical
Education activities, sports and weight training.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of Deaf Community preferred.
Experience in working with
deaf and hard of hearing students desired.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
New hires are subject to
a criminal background investigation at their own expense. (Maryland Code,
Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568)
Candidates will need to
provide three letters of recommendation.
BENEFITS
Contractual employees who
works for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and
Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and
work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be
eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their
dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying
25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any
eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the
remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in
dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life
insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
