Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to advance health equity by identifying and eliminating tobacco, diabetes, and chronic disease related to inequalities and disparities. This position will also be responsible for enhancing existing tobacco control, diabetes, and chronic disease programs.

This position is designated as a Hybrid position, which is defined as working part-time at the office location and part-time at the telework location. It is understood that this position will adhere to the State of Maryland Telework Policy and State of Maryland Telework Agreement and Acknowledgement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Education, Community Health Education or Health Science.

Experience: None.

Notes

1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, Health Science or related behavioral science and one year of experience in planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Educator and Community Health classifications or Health Educator and Community Health specialty codes in the Public Health field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess experience with chronic diseases, particularly Type II Diabetes and experience speaking to small groups. The desired candidate should also be certified as a Lifestyle Balance Coach to facilitate the National Diabetes Prevention Program.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
