POSITION DUTIES

To provide psychological services to students in Correctional Education (CE) throughout 12 state prisons in Maryland, as assigned, in compliance with Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, (IDEA), (PL 105-17). To conduct diagnostic assessments, participate in psychotherapeutic activities and special education interdisciplinary Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings, and assist in the scheduling for related service providers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists under the licensing requirements for Psychologists.

Experience: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists under the licensing requirements for Psychologists.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- One year of experience identifying primary disabilities that allow a multidisciplinary team to determine special education eligibility criteria under IDEA.  

- One year of experience counseling students within a school setting. 

- One year of experience collaborating with various professionals on a multidisciplinary team on the development of an IEP.

- One year of experience conducting professional development for employees.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for this classification must be licensed as a Psychologist by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists prior to permanent appointment to a position.  Applicants who do not have a Maryland license may apply before receipt of the required license but the application will be designated in pending status by the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Testing Unit.  When the license has been obtained, submit a copy of the license to MDH to remove the pending status from the application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (Dept. of Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to Dept of Labor/DUI as a result of an unemployment insurance overpayment and/or fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
