POSITION DUTIES

The Comptroller of Maryland is seeking a Computer Operator Lead who will lead the operators at the Annapolis Data Center (ADC) during the second shift, which includes Production Control, Print Services, and Help Desk Services. This position oversees the operation of the Computer system; troubleshoots computer operations problems; reports malfunctions to maintenance personnel; Follow daily production schedules and make schedule adjustments as needed. Work with Tivoli Workload Scheduler (OPC) when setting up production work. Member of the Computer Operations Disaster Recovery Team. Will test and maintain Disaster Recovery and Continuity of Operations Plans for the Computer Operations unit and participate in disaster recovery testing.

NOTE: Work hours: 3:30 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. The Annapolis Data Center operates 24 hours per day, every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas. The days of the week that this position works rotates, and this position often will be scheduled to work on the weekends and holiday

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience operating multipurpose, multi-tasking computer systems.

NOTES:

  1. Candidates may substitute additional experience operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing or maintaining information on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
  2. Candidates may substitute fifteen credit hours in computer operation at an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.
  3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Computer System Operations classifications or Computer System Operations specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

High School graduate with two years’ experience as a Lead Computer Operator in a mainframe environment.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This position requires you to perform physical work, such as moving boxes of paper weighing up to forty pounds, moving equipment, moving loaded pallets using a pallet jack, cleaning equipment, and other physical tasks.

Prior to appointment, the employee must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. This background check is comprehensive and may involve fingerprinting. Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee is required to serve an initial six- month probationary period. This probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.
