Introduction

Maryland Department of Labor (MDOL)/Division of Maryland Unemployment Insurance (DUI)/Contributions Division, Field Investigation and Audit Unit is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of UI Contributions Tax Auditor V (UI Contributions Tax Auditor Supervisor).

LOCATION OF POSITION

College Park, Maryland (This position requires a substantial amount of travel within the assigned region and to the Baltimore office to perform assigned duties.)

POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to supervise a staff of UI Contributions Tax Auditors assigned to ensure fair and equal administration of Unemployment Insurance law to all Maryland employers. This position educates Maryland employers, accountant, and attorneys about the Maryland Unemployment Insurance program and state and federal unemployment insurance laws. The Auditor VI position supervises the assigned team of Auditors IV to Auditors I with the audit staff. This position ensures efficient resource management and quality customer service within the Field Investigation and Audit Unit.


This position will supervise and assist in training of UI Contributions Tax Auditors, and perform audits, disputed claims, claimant questionnaires, delinquency collection, and special investigation assignments.  Ensure fair and equal administration of Unemployment Insurance Law to all Marylanders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by 3 credit hours in auditing.

Experience: Five years of experience conducting tax audits or accountant work.

Eight years of experience working as a professional auditor or accountant.  

Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Auditor or a Master’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university for two years of the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

2 Years of Supervisory experience.
2 Years with the BEACON system.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to Labor/DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
