Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this job is to support the Maryland Military Department Installations Division specifically the Edgewood Enclave. The Edgewood Enclave is a unique area that supports the Maryland Army National Guard and is comprised of many facilities to including Armories, Army Aviation Support Facility, Field Maintenance Shop, Combined Support Maintenance Shop, Lauderick Creek Training Area, and several other buildings located on the Havre de Grace Military Reservation and Aberdeen Proving Grounds (South). The incumbent will be part of the Edgewood Enclave Installations Maintenance Team providing building maintenance support to all customers. Building maintenance includes but is not limited to electrical, plumbing, HV AC, carpentry, painting, grounds maintenance, equipment maintenance, snow removal, and door repairs.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties included but are not limited to:

* Make minor repairs and alterations to equipment and building structures
* Perform minor maintenance and repairs in specific areas (such as light bulb replacement, painting and parking area maintenance) 
* Interior painting of the structure as required due to wear and tear, as well as office moves and remodeling
* As required make minor repairs to roadways, walkways and other ground construction
* As needed make minor repairs to floors, windows, furniture and other wooden structures
* On a weekly basis, check and maintain sewer lines, clean traps, monitor boiler for operation and clean roof sewer lines
* Complete maintenance projects such as installation/removal of air conditioners, changing fixtures and ballasts, replacing toilet seats, posting signs, and paper towel and soap dispensers
* Remove snow and ice from surrounding walks, driveways, access points around the facility
* Remove trash and debris from public areas by gathering trash and taking it to the dumpster for disposal

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Eighth grade.

Experience: Three years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades provided that at least two years of experience are primarily in the trades of electricity, plumbing, steamfittings, refrigeration or air-conditioning.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in any of the maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a degree from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a related field for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in any combination of maintenance trades, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

This position will require the ability to pass a Federal background check in addition to a State background to access the Edgewood Enclave and computer systems.  The ability to obtain and maintain this access to the facility is a condition of employment for this position.

This position is an emergency essential position.
