Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor (MDOL) Division of Unemployment Insurance is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of UI Tax Accountant Professional IV. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies. All candidates must meet the minimum and selective qualifications during the time apply. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year after the closing date of the announcement.

POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position UI Tax Accountant Professional IV is to assist the Wage Reporting and Accounting Unit Supervisor in planning, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating the work of UI Professionals and lower-level UI Tax Accountant Professionals and to provide the advanced level of work in the Wage Reporting and Accounting Unit within the Accounting and Fund Management Section within the Unemployment Insurance Contributions Division (UI) of the Department of Labor (DOL) applying generally accepted accounting principles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, or a Bachelor’s degree with 30 credit hours in Accounting and/or related courses.   

Experience: Four years of professional accounting experience or four years of experience examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems, records and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles.  

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or a Master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university for two years of the required experience.

2. Candidates who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.

3. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education in Accounting at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 credit hours on a year-for-year basis for the required general experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Accounting Officer classification or Financial Management specialty codes in the Accounting field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

 

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet the selective qualification(s) to be considered. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

Must have three years of supervisory experience 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
CPA certification
Prior or current Unemployment Insurance experience

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (DOL/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to DLLR/DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
