Main Purpose of Job

This position assists staff in carrying out positioning programs and range of motion with consistency and accuracy in the residences and day program areas in accordance with the most current procedures in place for each resident in order to enhance the overall function of the individual with developmental disabilities. This position monitors adaptive equipment use, cleanliness and state of repair. This position also assists with direct care duties associated with implementing the habilitative plan of care. These duties may be carried out in the residences as well as in the on-campus work sites.

NOTICE: Federal COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement for Certain Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Employees Per the emergency regulation issued by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) (86 FR 61555), and as permitted to go into effect by the U.S. Supreme Court on January 13, 2022, all staff at the Maryland Department of Health’s CMS certified health care facilities are required to receive either a first or single COVID-19 dose and provide proof of their vaccination status by January 29, 2022. If selected for this position, candidates will be required to provide proof of vaccination status or have an approved religious or medical exemption prior to appointment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university with a minimum of 15 credits in health or human services, education or the behavioral sciences.

Experience: One year of experience providing direct client services in a developmental disability or similar therapeutic setting.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute an Associate of Arts or Bachelor's degree that includes specialization specialization in the field of developmental disabilities, mental health, or closely related area and a supervised clinical practicum in a developmental disabilities or similar behavior modification setting for the required education and experience.

2. Candidates may substitute additional experience providing rehabilitation services in a developmental disability setting at the rate of one year of experience for 30 credits of the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:
  • Experience working in a residential facility
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities
  • Experience working with adaptive equipment (wheelchairs, mechanical lifts, etc.)

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates for this classification may be required to successfully complete training and maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Applicants for this classification may be given a medical examination, after an offer of employment and prior to appointment, to demonstrate the ability to perform the work required of the position.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, will be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.
