Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Administrative Specialist I. This position assists the Education Director, Assistant Director or Executive Director.

POSITION DUTIES

To assist the Education Director, Assistant Director or Executive Director in all aspects of education to qualify for exam, to obtain and maintain a real estate license and to audit continuing education at renewal; also respond to questions from licensees and consumers relating to status of license, loss of license, fees, processes, and deadlines.

Duties of this position include, but not limited to
:
  • Receives requests for MD exam from out-of-state licensees; researches other state requirements of education and experience credentials for these out-of-state salesperson, associate brokers and broker applicants; the approves or denies eligibility toward MD's exam; applies waivers available in law and regulations.
  • Independently composes appropriate correspondence approving/denying or requesting additional information.
  • Maintains all education files, creates and maintains Excel document showing outcome of requests/approvals/denials.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:   Two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Experience researching, collecting and compiling data 

Experience preparing and presenting ideas and information

Experience using Microsoft Excel

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (Department of Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to Department of Labor/DUI as a result of unemployment overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
