Main Purpose of Job

The main function of the position is to assist with fiscal, administrative, and operational activities for Headquarters - Maryland Forest Service and various programs such as Marylanders Plant Trees program as well as other urban forestry programs. This support may include periodic program updates, coupon reimbursements, tracking nursery partnership support such as contract processing in addition to accounting inquiries, photocopying, research, distribute reports, typing and filing. Other position duties entail preparing misc. adjustments, processing bills for payment, entering data into Excel spreadsheets, tracking contracts, corporate card logs and other various general accounting procedures. The selected candidate will also communicate regularly with the administrative support staff.

POSITION DUTIES

The Department of Natural Resources, Forest Service (DNR Headquarters located in Annapolis), is currently accepting applications for an Administrative Specialist II. The main function of the position is to provide administrative support to the Marylanders Plant Trees program as well as other urban forestry programs.  This support may include periodic program updates, coupon reimbursements, tracking nursery partnership support such as contract processing in addition to accounting inquiries, photocopying, research, distribute reports, typing and filing. Other position duties entail preparing misc. adjustments, processing bills for payment, entering data into Excel spreadsheets, grant expenses reconciliations, payroll record keeping and corporate card logs. The selected candidate will also communicate regularly with the administrative support staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:   Three years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university and one year of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Proficient grammar, writing, and mathematical skills.

Experience or training using computer software applications, retrieving, and updating data, maintain files, logs and other records.

Experience or training with front desk duties such as answering telephones, routing calls, and responding to visitor inquiries.

Proficient communication skills with the general public, co-workers and supervisors.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates may be responsible for providing their own transportation as needed to access meetings, remote locations, and job destinations as assigned.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a temporary/contractual employee who works an average of at least 12 hours per week. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
