Responsibilities include oversight of the Maryland State Library for the Blind and Print Disabled; Maryland’s Public Libraries; the State Library Network; the Library Capital Grants Programs; and the Deaf Culture Digital Library.

LOCATION OF POSITION

This position is available within the Maryland State Library Agency, Library for the Blind and Print Disabled Division, located at 415 Park Avenue Baltimore, MD 21201.

Main Purpose of Job

Supervise the overall maintenance production of the Maryland State Library for the Blind and Print Disabled (LBPD), Maryland State Library Agency, and other duties as required. This position requires the ability to think independently and make decisions in an emergency. Under the direction of the LBPD Director, oversee and monitor the performance of the Comprehensive Building Management Services contract at the Library for the Blind and Print Disabled, as well as at the Maryland State Library Agency. 

Perform necessary administrative and maintenance tasks to properly operate the LBPD facility. The Maintenance Chief IV must work independently and is expected to maintain a schedule of work.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties for this position include but are not limited to:

Oversee the Comprehensive Building Management Services Contract.

Schedule and assign daily tasks to maintenance and housekeeping based on the urgency of need.

Inspect completed repairs to ensure adequate completion.

Review monthly maintenance report submitted by the Building Maintenance Contractor. 

Participate in the preventive maintenance, repairs and installation of all agency equipment and its facilities.

Assist emergency response teams during evacuations in assessing building conditions, locating missing personnel, shutting off utilities, and delivering status reports to assembly point leaders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Eighth grade.

Experience: Five years of experience in the building maintenence or building construction trades including four years of experience assigning, reviewing and approving the work of other building maintenance or building construction workers.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
