POSITION DUTIES

To plan, organize and direct a volunteer program at the Roxbury Correctional Institution. Provide administrative support to executive staff as needed. This position differs from the standard VAC position in that security is paramount in a Correctional setting. This position requires extensive technical knowledge in the retrieval and interpretation of criminal history documents. This position also requires completion of the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Academy.

  • Responsible for orientation of all volunteers, student interns and staff. 
  • Recruitment and coordination of student interns including ongoing contact between agencies and college liaison. 
  • Writes institutional directives and policies regarding volunteer programs and the volunteer handbook to provide guidance to new volunteers.
  • Manages, monitors, and evaluates inmate organization activities.
  • Supervises the maintenance of appropriate records required by DOC and institutional policy.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

    Notes:

    1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.

    2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

    3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

    SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

    Experience in planning and executing events and programs for various sized groups of individuals.

    DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

    1. Experience in managing volunteer pool; to include recruitment, applicant processing, training and oversight of volunteer base.

    2. Experience in conducting background checks, utilizing METERS and OCMS. 


    LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

    This position is limited to permanent and contractual employees working for the State of Maryland.

    LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

    Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
