POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to provide administrative and direct support and related assistance to the Adult, Child, and Family Services Assistant Director and to the Adult, Child, and Family Service Division, as well as supervise the ACFS Clerical Unit. This position performs a wide variety of complex and confidential administrative duties involving the development of solutions and alternatives to administrative problems and the resolution of administrative issues. Performs duties that require considerable confidentiality, initiative, tact, independent judgment, requiring strong interpersonal, organizational, and decision making skills. Provides direct support to Assistant Director of Services and backup support to the Director of the agency. This position is distinguished from other administrative specialist positions by the level and scope of support provided to executive management, creative thought, use of independent judgment and analysis, and recommendations for problem solving.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

One year experience in handling confidential documentation

One year experience handling inquiries from internal and external community partners 

One year experience in taking notes/minutes, processing invoices, and preparing reports 

Two years of supervisory experience in an office setting.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

  • Personal Leave - new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date).
  • Annual Leave - ten (10) days of accumulated annual leave per year.
