Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for providing psychological consultation and integrating psychological services with other disciplines to address problems related to mental health, emotional disturbances, behavioral and developmental deviations, or other disabling conditions. The incumbent will share oversight of all clinical activities in detention programs and community offices within the Behavioral Health Services Unit in the Division of Clinical Services for the DJS.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Directs the hiring, training, leadership and supervision for psychologists, professional counselors and other behavioral health professionals as assigned by the Director of Behavioral Health;

  • Directs the development and provision of behavioral health (BH) services including Multidisciplinary Assessment Staffing Team (MAST) and other clinical assessments in assigned detention and community settings;

  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to monitor staffing and specialized programs to meet the needs of the youth in DJS’ care;

  • Assists the Director of Behavioral Health by leading or participating on internal and external agency committees/workgroups, developing program initiatives, preparing and implementing budgets and other administrative responsibilities as well as representing the Director as needed;

  • Manages Behavioral Health contracts for assigned facilities and prepares documents and quality service reviews to ensure compliance with DJS standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists under the requirements for Licensed Psychologist. 

Experience: Minimum of three years of experience working as a licensed psychologist and at least one year of experience directing the hiring, training, leadership and supervision for psychologists, professional counselors and/or other behavioral health professionals for a mental health agency, state agency, hospital or clinical practice.

The incumbent must obtain a current Maryland license to practice as a Psychologist from the Board prior to appointment.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates must possess a current Maryland license to practice as a Psychologist from the Maryland Department of Health: Board of Examiners of Psychologists or have the ability to obtain a Psychologist license prior to appointment.
