Introduction

This is a seasonal recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service. There are Three (3) vacancies: One (1) at Point Lookout State Park, One (1) at Greenwell State Park and One (1) at Newtowne Neck State Park.

LOCATION OF POSITION

All three (3) vacancies are located in St. Mary's County. There is one (1) Park Ranger vacancy at each of the following locations: 

  • Point Lookout State Park, 11175 Point Lookout Rd, Scotland, MD 20687
  • Greenwell State Park, 25420 Rosedale Manor Ln, Hollywood, MD 20636
  • Newtowne Neck State Park, 21308 Newtowne Neck Rd, Leonardtown, MD 20650

Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Park Service is currently recruiting for multiple seasonal contractual positions at Point Lookout State Park in Scotland, Maryland; Greenwell State Park in Hollywood, Maryland; Newtowne Neck State Park in Leonardtown, Maryland. You must indicate on the Supplemental Questionnaire the position(s) of interest in order to be considered for this recruitment.

PARK RANGER (3 vacancies) 

Point Lookout State Park (1 vacancy)
Greenwell State Park (1 vacancy)
Newtowne Neck State Park (1 vacancy)

A Seasonal Park Ranger is a temporary, introductory level of work in the operation of a State park. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide visitors with park information and regulations
  • Register campers
  • Monitor and cleaning of campgrounds, bath houses and restrooms
  • General maintenance of park trails, public facilities, staff buildings and DNR vessels and vehicles
  • Monitor recreational activities in the park, including but not limited to hunting, fishing, hiking and biking
  • Applicants must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • *Seasonal Rangers assigned to a park other than Point Lookout may be responsible for facility maintenance including; cleaning and stocking restrooms, litter pick-up, buildings, grounds and vehicle maintenance.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
