The Comptroller's Revenue Administration Division is looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking, leader to serve as Manager of the Taxpayer Accounting Section.

Some of the duties in this position will include managing the staff responsible for processing account adjustments, amended returns, certain corporate and complex returns, verifying business tax credits, and providing support for the Agency's ongoing modernization program. The work of the Taxpayer Accounting Section plays a critical role in maintaining the excellent reputation of the Comptroller's Office with the taxpayers and tax professionals throughout Maryland. 

Our office is located in the heart of beautiful, historic Annapolis. Candidates with management experience and who excel in the areas of attention to detail, accuracy, teamwork, and a commitment to public service are encouraged to apply. 

PLEASE NOTE:  Available to work overtime on Saturdays, holidays and other than normal work hours when needed. This position is designated as an Essential Emergency Personnel position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Possession of Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four year college or university.

Experience:  (3) years of experience in the processing, preparation, examination, review of tax returns or unclaimed property claims, including experience in a supervisory or management position responsible for organizing, leading, planning, training, and managing multiple functions and tasks and experience in a fast-paced work environment with production quotas and production standards.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors or advanced degree in accounting, management information systems, tax, or other related field.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, direct and administer all aspects of a major operations unit. 
  • Demonstrated ability to establish goals, standards and controls to meet division objectives. 
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, supervise and evaluate the work of subordinate managers. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop procedures. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Confidence, self motivation and good conflict resolution skills. 
  • Dependable with a history of regular attendance.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Only applicants who meet the minimum and selective qualifications for this recruitment will be considered for this opportunity. Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview. Prior to appointment, the employee must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. This background check is comprehensive and may involve fingerprinting. Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee is required to serve an initial six- month probationary period. This probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.
