Main Purpose of Job

This position will work with the external affairs and Sr. staff as a digital media and communications specialist. This position requires someone to have excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work in a team as well as independently, the ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure, good project management skills and attention to detail.

This position will be responsible for assisting DoIT staff in the development and creation of engaging content, populating, and maintaining DoIT social media pages and working with DoIT staff to keep our website up to date. All projects and content will be in alignment with the Department’s overall communications strategy. 

This position will also serve as a backup for the Executive Assistant in support of the Executive Team.

POSITION DUTIES

Researches, develops, and posts relevant and accurate social media posts for the Department. This includes Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and occasionally Instagram.

Assists in the creation of press releases, newsletters, testimony, and other written correspondence distributed by DoIT staff. 

Assists in the development of presentations, speeches, meetings, and other external public appearances by DoIT staff. 

Collaborate closely with identified DoIT personnel to help facilitate the creation of multimedia content and apply it to the appropriate channels. 

Reviews and edits mass external emails for content and grammar. 

Provide support by taking photographs and videos to be used in promotional media. 

Edit video and photographs to implement into the final product. 

Serves as a backup for the Executive Assistant in supporting the Executive Team when the current Executive Assistant is unavailable. 

Other external affairs assignments as time allows.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Six years of administrative staff or professional work. 

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience. 

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience. 

3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for five years of the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for- year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Proficient in using G Suite applications: Google Meetings, Calendars, Email, Drive, Sheets, Slides and Forms.

Experience updating websites, which will include LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram. 

Experience researching, writing, editing, and proofreading communications products.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
