Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this full-time position will be to serve as a member of the Public Affairs staff for the Worcester County Health Department and assist in preparing and submitting internal and external communications. This position will be responsible for conducting assessment and planning activities under the direction of the Director of Prevention Services and the Health Officer. This position will also serve as the primary staff responsible for the production and release of information regarding Worcester County Health Department programs, development of marking plans and performance of PIO duties in all hazards response planning. This may include the development of news releases, print media, social media, and health communications campaigns. In addition, this position will be responsible for emergency preparedness and risk communications. This position may require evening and/or weekend hours. The selected applicant must be able to work and travel to all Worcester County Health Department sites.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Six years of experience in public information, public relations, journalism or other related experience in publicity or promotional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 30 semester credit hours in one or more of the following subjects: English, journalism, public relations, writing or other similar and related areas of study and two years of experience in public information, public relations, journalism or other related experience in publicity or promotional work for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in public affairs specialist classification or public affairs specialty codes in the information and arts field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess:
  • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating Health Communications campaigns;
  • Experience communicating effectively both verbal and written;
  • Experience with graphic design, social media and marketing.
