Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
Analyzes
personal property returns and supporting schedules for accuracy and
completeness by using department procedures. Assesses personal property of
businesses for tax purposes in accordance with laws regulations, policies and
procedures that govern the assessment process. Completes Assessments within
prescribed deadlines.
Learns and provides accurate explanations of personal property laws, procedures and policies to taxpayers, local tax officials, tax preparers and the public. Provides assistance to the public in need of telephone or walk-in service. Complies with the Department’s Customer Service Policy, CS#1, Teleworking policy, and IT equipment usage policy.
Exhibits positive attitudes, recognizes and provides support and/or assistance to co-workers, works cooperatively in group situations, works actively to resolve conflicts and readily accepts direction from Supervisors.
Composes
clear and succinct correspondence for additional information, responses to
inquiries and appeals by using department procedures. Communication to include
telephone and electronic sources.
Completes special assignments within prescribed deadlines.
Learns features and programs of the data system and relevant software including Excel.
Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to, compliance with the requirements detailed in the Department's Customer Service Policy, #CS1.
May
include cross training and assisting other Business Services units.
Participate
in training provided by Management for any job duty deficiencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Four years of appraisal experience involving the valuation of personal property of businesses.
Note: Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Employees in this classification may be required to have daily use of a motor vehicle while on official State business. Standard mileage allowance will be paid for use of a privately owned vehicle.
2. Employees in this classification are prohibited from participating in an outside activity, including private appraisals, which may be deemed a conflict of interest by the Director of the Department of Assessments and Taxation.

- Personal Leave - new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date)
