POSITION DUTIES

This position supports the Director of Medical Records and hospital leadership with several areas that are critical to high quality patient care, including: patient records and files management, generating/compiling statistical reports required by administration, and processing CPT sheets for payment by Medicare and other insurances. This position requires proficiency in ICD-10-CM and CPT coding. This position is responsible for the Release of Patient Information process, which is crucial for payment, for providing supporting documentation for continuation of care, and also for meeting 'Patients and Residents Rights' requirements. In addition, this position maintains associated logs and records in accordance with standards, regulations and laws.

NOTICE: Federal COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement for Certain Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Employees

Per the emergency regulation issued by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) (86 FR 61555), and as permitted to go into effect by the U.S. Supreme Court on January 13, 2022, all staff at the Maryland Department of Health’s CMS certified health care facilities are required to receive either a first or single COVID-19 dose and provide proof of their vaccination status by January 29, 2022.

If selected for this position, candidates will be required to provide proof of vaccination status or have an approved religious or medical exemption prior to appointment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience compiling and maintaining health records.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Medical Record classifications or Patient Administration Specialists and Health Services Management specialty codes in the health records management field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess an associate degree in Health Information Management with RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) certification. The desired candidate should have experience with ICD-10-CM and CPT coding.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates for this classification must demonstrate the ability to type at a minimum speed of 20 words per minute.
