Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of the Epidemiologist I position located in the Office of Assessment and Planning is to serve as the primary data analyst for the Department's Disease Prevention and Management Bureau. Programs in this bureau include Infectious Disease Prevention and Control, Community Education and Health Equity, Cancer Screening Services, Emergency Preparedness and Response, and HIV/STI Care and Prevention. The Epidemiologist I will apply basic epidemiologic practices in the analysis, interpretation, and evaluation of disease data, strengthen the Department's disease surveillance capacity, and support all preparation and response capabilities in the event of a public health emergency. The Epidemiologist I uses statistical and clinical data systems to answer public health emergencies. The Epidemiologist I also participates in Department-wide data-dependent initiatives, such as the Anne Arundel County community health needs assessment and grant planning and preparation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics.

Experience: None.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
