Main Purpose of Job

The Community Health Nursing Director of Family Health services is responsible for administering a budget of nearly $12M comprised of County and State funds; directing a staff of approximately 110 clinical, managerial, clerical and service personnel located in several different facilities in the County; and assessing, planning, developing, implementing and evaluating nursing and other comprehensive programs devoted to linking residents with health resources they need. FHS provides a number of public health services including Access to Care (REACH, ACCIEACC/Ombudsman, MCHP), Maternal & Child Health (Healthy Start and Babies Born Healthy), WJC, Dental Health, MA Transportation and Adult Evaluation Review Services (AERS)/Nurse Monitoring Program. In accordance with the State of Maryland Procedure for Release of State Employees, this position is designated as an emergency essential employee and as such is required to report for work or remain at the work site to continue agency operation during emergencies.


Qualified candidates must possess a master’s degree in nursing or a related field from an accredited college or university and five years of experience as a community health nurse in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity or two years of experience as a community health nurse and three years of experience in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity as a registered nurse. 

A bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related field and six years of experience as a community health nurse in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity may be substituted for the required education and experience. 


Preferred applications should possess experience working with a pediatric or maternal health population.


1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a registered nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.


This is a Management Service position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.  A resume must accompany your application.
