Main Purpose of Job

The part-time contractual Registered Nurse Manager has responsibility for planning and coordinating provision of care throughout the hospital on an assigned shift. This position directly supervises the Central Nursing Office RN Supervisors, Staffing Coordinators and the Nursing Transportation Office. This position serves as the nursing department's coordinator for modified duty staff on FMLA, and as the Hospital Center's Agency Technical Representative in managing the State's drug testing program for weekends and holidays. This position provides administrative and clinical supervision in the absence of the ADON, and  may provide direct nursing care as needed and perform other related duties. This position collaborates with the Director of Nursing and the Assistant Director of Nursing in the implementation and evaluation of the department's philosophy, objectives, standards, policies/procedures, and nursing practices. This position is an Emergency Essential position required to have and maintain a valid Maryland Driver's License and be able to drive  State Vehicles in accordance with State of Maryland Policies and Procedures for Drivers of State Vehicles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience as a Registered Nurse to include two years in the Psychiatric option and one year in a supervisory, administrative or consultative capacity.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the Psychiatric option for the required education and experience.

2. Candidates may substitute six years of experience as a Registered Nurse to include three years in a supervisory, administrative or teaching capacity in the Psychiatric option for the required education and experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing and Hospital Administration specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215 or possess a current multi-state license in party states that candidates have declared as primary states of residence.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a phone number at which they can be reached.

Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
