Main Purpose of Job

Review and verifies medical assistance data for accuracy, completeness and compliance with State and federal regulations by applying appropriate Medical Care Program regulations, policies and procedures. Reviews and determines client eligibility for Maryland Children’s Health Program (MCHP) and Medical Assistance for Families (FAC). Activities include data entry and interaction with internal and external clients.

This position is eligible for hybrid telework.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Data Verification:  Performs clearances and conducts screening process on MCP new applications and re-determinations according to the guidelines of the MCP program manual and COMAR regulations. Systems and databases to be utilized for clearances include the Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS); the Maryland Automated Benefit System(MABS); the State Verification Exchange System (SVES); the Clients’ Automated Resource and Eligibility System (CARES); and the Customer Data Base (CDB) and most recently MHCsystem.  Enter codes and maintain data into automated information systems.

  • Administrative/Program Support: Assists in preparing and updating client files.  Supports MCP Supervisor in mailing necessary correspondence and follow-up phone calls to clients as needed.  Logs applications into internal MCP Access Database.

  • Customer Service: With direction from MCP Supervisor, respond to client inquiries by phone and in person, including clients who arrive without an appointment and those who come during designated walk-in hours. Mails MHC/MCHP applications upon request.  Provides MCP applications to internal outreach workers.

  • Other Duties as Assigned: Accepts responsibility for special projects as assigned. Participates in EP drills or actual events.  Participates in seasonal flu clinics

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of clerical experience applying policies in a medical care, health insurance or federal or State entitlement program.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional general clerical experience on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Desired qualifications:
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Experience with the Maryland Health Connection (MHC) system
- Experience/Knowledge of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and/or Maryland Medicaid
- Experience applying policies in Medical Care, Health Insurance and/or Federal or State entitlement program 
- Experience with customer service in an office setting
