POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to support the continuing operation of the Maryland Correctional Enterprises (Services information technology systems) providing on-site technical services and assist with special projects, including the installation, configuration and upgrade of hardware and software, hardware problems, making necessary adjustments. This position will be tasked with investigating and finding IT related contraband. This position will require work within a correctional facility and interact with incarcerated individuals in a training program.

Duties Include:
  • Respond to Help Desk calls by asking users diagnostic questions to determine computer system or printer problems. 
  • Evaluates personal computer hardware and software to provide solutions to user needs. 
  • May install and troubleshoot personal computer hardware and software.
  • Act as security representative to administer security issues related to MCE computers and local area networks.
  • Conduct periodic security scans and investigations to ensure security compliance of all MCE hardware.
  • Maintains records of inventory, local area network lines, users' accounts or security information including violations.
  • Assist/trains MCE users in accessing the computer by providing detailed instructions as contained in equipment manuals, systems manuals, application manuals, user guides and other written guidelines.
  • Prints and distributes reports for A/P, A/R, Inventory, Customer Service, and Purchasing.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

    Experience: One year of experience evaluating, implementing and maintaining personal computer hardware and software.

    Notes:

    1. Candidates may substitute experience responding to and resolving help desk calls from users of computers, or operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, data base or other applications on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

    2. Candidates may substitute nine credit hours in personal computer applications at an accredited college, university or institution for one year of the required experience.

    3. Candidates may substitute the completion of a certification program in computer repair, such as Microsoft A+ or an   equivalent program for one year of the required experience.

    4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Cyber and Information Systems classifications or Cyber and Information Systems specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

    SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

    One year of experience troubleshooting and supporting users in a Windows Environment.

    1. Experience installing and/or troubleshooting computer hardware and software.

    2. Experience responding to Help Desk calls by asking users diagnostic questions to determine computer system or printer problems.
