Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of
this position is to plan, design, develop, implement, maintain and control
database management systems for computers.
Frequently, the role requires hands-on participation in all elements of
a full life-cycle development process.
POSITION DUTIES
This position provides
technical knowledge and support in the Agency's Information Systems Division -
a team that enjoys a positive and constructive reputation for getting work
accomplished using Agile methods and current toolsets and practices. The
incumbent provides specialized expertise in relational database management
systems and programming to design, develop, and maintain the pension
administration management systems used to support Agency staff, over 130
employers statewide, and pension plan participants. This position impacts
Agency day-to-day operations and has collaborative interaction and visibility
at all levels of the organization.
Responsibilities include: Monitoring SQL Agent job
completion and SQL Server health (space, performance, availability, other
metrics); Troubleshooting and resolving issues; Reviewing
developer T-SQL and SSRS/Power BI Report code for quality, efficiency, and security,
and suggesting appropriate improvements; Assisting developers with T-SQL
code and database design, with database permissions for compliance with
policies, appropriateness and best practices; with requested database restores,
with auditors’ and managers’ database-related information requests, with SSIS
package/project deployment, and with reviewing and promoting database changes
through the development environments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Two years of experience, one year of experience designing, developing, implementing, maintaining and controlling database management systems for computers and one additional year of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining applications systems and programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or maintaining and modifying operating systems for computers.

1. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate plus thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology-related field to include course work in database management systems for the one additional year of the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute possession of experience operating computer systems; or scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining a tape library to process data on computer systems; or converting data from project specifications by developing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages on a year-for-year basis for graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology related field to include course work in database management systems and one year of experience designing, developing, implementing, maintaining and controlling database management systems for computers for the required experience.
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Database Administration classifications or Database Administration specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
