Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for supervising staff in the planning, project management, coordinating, and training related to the electronic and physical security of DJS offices and facilities. This position has the ultimate responsibility for the electronic security of the agency, including video surveillance, detention door systems, keycard access, code red system, Guard Tour, fence intrusion systems, intercom systems, and two-way radios. This position is responsible for all security systems, including all planning and implementation, training, drafting policies and procedures, auditing, and deciding on all security systems and protocols. This position supervises and directs members on a day-to-day operational basis.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Manages Electronic Security: Develops the structure and methodology for electronic security across the agency for all related hardware and software. Plans, designs, and develops new or improves existing electronic security systems, through electronic security plans to address user needs, hardware, software, integrations, and peripherals to include of end of life planning.

  • Manages Technology Security Team: Plans, coordinates, supervises, and evaluates the work of the Technology Security team in achieving short and long-term goals, training and development goals, and completes all PEPS, timesheets, and leave requests within the required time limits. Trains staff. 

  • Security Audits: Monitors the use of security systems to determine advances and changes necessary to improve remediate or fix vulnerabilities in our security systems. Specifically, conducts security audits and vulnerability and threat assessments of all security systems agency-wide, as well as audit policies and controls. Provides expert technical guidance to the agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Eight years of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining application, communication, database or operating systems software.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems or other information technology-related field to include coursework in application, communication, database or operating systems software technology for four years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and one year of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining application, communication, database or operating systems software for four years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute experience operating computer systems; or scheduling, controlling input and output to process data on computer systems; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software; or converting data from project specifications by writing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages on a year-for-year basis for a high school education.

4. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems or other information technology-related field to include coursework in application, communication, database or operating systems software technology and four years of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining application, communication, database or operating systems software for the required experience.

5. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Computer Systems Operations classifications or Computer Systems Operations specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

  • Project management experience
  • Experience developing project plans
  • Experience as a Supervisor
  • Knowledge of electronic security systems such as two-way radios, video surveillance, detention door systems, keycard access systems, perimeter patrol tracking systems, among others
  • Experience drafting policies and procedures
  • Experience with security audits
