Main Purpose of Job

The Director of Nursing at Eastern Shore Hospital Center is responsible for promoting quality by incorporating current nursing research findings, nationally recognized professional standards and other expert literature into policies and procedures governing the provision of nursing care, treatment, and services provided by the nursing department. Job performance is consistent with the Eastern Shore Hospital Center’s Mission and Vision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified applicants must possess a master's degree in a nursing related field from an accredited college or university and five years of psychiatric nursing experience (as a registered nurse) of which at least three years must have been in a supervisory, teaching or administrative capacity. Qualified candidates must possess a license as a Registered Nurse by the Maryland Board of Nursing. A copy of your current RN license must accompany application.

A bachelor's degree in nursing or related field from an accredited college or university, together with seven years of psychiatric nursing experience (as a registered nurse) of which at least five years must have been in a supervisory, teaching or administrative capacity is also qualifying. A Ph.D. in nursing from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two years of general experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Desirable candidates should possess the following:

  • Experience with Board of Nursing requirements, policies, and regulations. 
  • Experience educating and mentoring nursing staff to empower our Nursing Department. 
  • Experience working in a State Psychiatric Hospital.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

SELECTION PROCESS

This is a Management Service position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.  A resume must accompany your application.

For education obtained outside the U.S., any job offer will be contingent on the candidate providing an evaluation for equivalency by a foreign credential evaluation service prior to starting employment (and may be requested prior to interview).

Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.
