Introduction
The Maryland Department of Commerce is seeking qualified
candidates for the position of Senior Business Development Representative - Prince George's County, within its Division of Business and Industry Sector Development’s Regional
Growth and Retention Business Unit.
This recruitment is limited to existing Maryland Department of Commerce Employees only.
This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the
pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

LOCATION OF POSITION
The World Trade Center - 401 East Pratt Street, Baltimore,
Maryland 21202
Main Purpose of Job
This position is primarily responsible for attracting
businesses, assisting with retention, relocation, and expansion needs and
opportunities within the state of Maryland focusing on Prince Georges County.
POSITION DUTIES
The incumbent will actively market and promote the region’s
unique assets providing economic development assistance to businesses,
Counties, or economic development organizations. Individuals will be providing financial,
regulatory and technical assistance to businesses in cooperation with the
county government providing consultative services to businesses as to
availability of financing and providing site location assistance to new and
expanding businesses. Other duties include assisting in the development of
regional strategic economic development plans; and working closely with and
maintaining relationships with high level public and private sector officials,
county economic development officials, local elected officials, economic
development directors, State and Federal agencies, businesses and lending
institutions.
The selected employee will possess excellent interpersonal
skills to work with high level public and private sector officials and maintain
effective working relationships; excellent written and oral communication
skills; the ability to handle multiple, concurrent and high priority projects.
Some statewide travel is required, as is, attendance at out
of State conferences.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Real Estate/Land Use, or a related industry
field.
Experience: Six
(6) years of recent professional experience in industrial, business or economic
development; marketing; planning; commercial real estate; or related field.
Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
Notes:
1. Additional experience in
professional work in the above areas may be substituted on a year-for-year
basis of the required education.
2. Additional graduate level
education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 credit
hours on a year-for-year basis for the required general experience.
3. U.S. Armed Forces
military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work
related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and
processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a
staff assistant to a higher-ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year
basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to
applicants who possess the following preferred
qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your
application regarding your qualifications.
1) Local economic and business
development experience within Anne Arundel County.
2) Demonstrated sales
experience.
3) Possession of the designation
Certified Economic Developer by the International Economic Development
Council.
4) Proficiency with the Google
Suite, Microsoft Office Suite for Windows including Word, Excel, Access, and
PowerPoint, and/or other relevant software.
LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Some Statewide travel is required.
Employees in this position may be assigned duties which
require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employee assigned such duties will be
required to possess a driver’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
