POSITION DUTIES

Join #TeamMSDE in one of these rewarding, professional roles in the field of vocational rehabilitation counseling. These roles are responsible for coordinating and delivering job placement and business relations services for individuals with physical and/or mental disabilities, leading to employment including job development and placement.

Position Duties Include:

  • Assisting persons with disabilities in preparing for or obtaining employment consistent with their skills, capacities and vocational choices defined on their Individualized Plan for Employment, determining eligibility for vocational services
  • Providing individual career counseling to people with disabilities
  • Reviewing medical, psychological and vocational data to evaluate the nature and extent of the disability
  • Coordinating and providing services to consumers necessary to accommodate their disabilities and obtain employment
  • Obtaining services from other community agencies for consumers
  • Providing job placement, post-employment and following-up services

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: (Both levels) Possession of a Bachelor's Degree.

Experience:  

Level I - Professional experience in a behavioral or social science related field is preferred.  

Level II - Two years of professional experience in a behavioral or social science related field is required.   

Note: (II) A Master's degree in a Behavioral or Social Science related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualifications. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
  • Experience with providing career counseling and case management
  • Experience in the Vocational Rehabilitation field, and/or Human Services or related field 
  • Experience with preparing others for employment and interacting with the business community 
  • Professional experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants must consent to State Police Investigation (fingerprinting) as a routine procedure for all employees in this classification.
